Environmental Supplement to the International Physical Activity Prevalence Study
The International Physical Activity Prevalence Study (IPS) is a study using a standard questionnaire that is allowing researchers around the world to assess and compare moderate and vigerous physical activity, as well as walking and sedentary behavior. This project supports researchers' use of a separate "Environment Module" with questions about housing, land use, and access to pedestrian, and transit facilities. For example, one question asks respondents to agree or disagree with this statement: "Many shops, stores, markets or other places to buy things I need are within easy walking distance of my home." Active Living Research is supporting use of this questionnaire from which data will be collected and analyzed at the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center and shared in conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
