This study will explore the independent and interactive effects of social/cultural factors and the built environment of African American youth leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) and suggest related strategies to increase LTPA among this high-risk group.  The study target population includes African American young adolescents (age 12-14) and their caregivers who reside in the five municipalities participating in Alabama's Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership, a historic alliance to transform the built environment surrounding a local natural resource.  Findings from the study will be shared with the target population through town hall meetings and at local community organizations (e.g., civic groups, churches, schools, neighborhood association meetings). In addition, investigators will develop fact and tip sheets and target stories in local news outlets.  To reach policymakers, researchers will develop policy briefs.
