Health in All Policies: Identifying Partners to Address the Root Causes of Health Inequities
Workshop at the 2013 Active Living Research Annual Conference.
This workshop introduced the Health in All Policies history and approach, provided an overview of the tools used to help California’s Health in All Policies Task Force develop a shared vision, and offered participants an opportunity to identify strategies to support Health in All Policies in their own work. The workshop began with a description of Health in All Policies and why we need a collaborative, intersectoral approach to address today’s most challenging health issues (health inequities, chronic disease, climate change, etc.). Presenters described the social determinants of health and equity, and their relationship to Health in All Policies. Participants engaged in a root cause mapping activity, which was used by California’s Health in All Policies Task Force to establish a shared vision and develop collective goals. Through this activity, participants mapped the overlaps between their goals and the work of non-health sectors, considered potential new partners, and left with ideas of how to use a Health in All Policies to support collaborative approaches to their own work.
