Over the last 7 years, the city of Bogotá, Colombia, has been subject of massive investments in public space infrastructure such as bikeways, sidewalks, promenades, and parks. Probably there is no other city in Latin America that has recently devoted so much of its own budget to this type of investment. The physical transformation has been extraordinary and Bogotá has gained international reputation as an 'active city'.

This presentation will focus on the most representative projects that have changed the city, the theories behind these projects, and some of the consequences and the lessons learnt. The political, economic and social forces behind these projects will be also analyzed, as well as the prospects for their continuation in the future.
