Family Fitness Zone Evaluation
The Trust for Public Lands installed Fitness Zones, which are outdoor gym installations that provide strength training, flexibility and cardio workouts, in parks nationally. At time of grant funding, no evaluation had been completed to determine their affect on physical activity levels. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the Fitness Zones on adult and child physical activity levels and park usage in parks across Los Angeles, CA. Rapid-response funding was awarded for this project so that physical activity and park usage levels could be measured pre-installation of the Fitness Zones. Post-installation assessments were completed to determine the impact of the equipment on park use, aggregate physical activity, as well as the percentage of people engaged in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
