The purpose of this project was to develop reliable self-report measures of park and other physical activity setting characteristics tailored to low-income minority youth. Focus groups with low-income inner-city African American and Hispanic Chicago middle schoolers were used to develop the self-report measures. The measures were tested for reliability with other 6th through 8th graders. Field audits were then conducted to check validity of the self-report surveys. Analysis of the survey data were used to identify potential areas for future community-based interventions to increase physical activity.
