Evaluation of Two Contract Options for Promoting Physical Activity in Out-of-School Programs
The Children's Trust, an independent taxing district in Miami Dade County, FL, is the largest funder of Out-of-School programs. Beginning in the Fall of 2010, The Trust mandated the implementation of evidence-based physical activity curricula via Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK). The purpose of this project was to evaluate the adoption of the evidence-based physical activity curricula versus standard unstructured programs that were currently in place. Rapid-response funding was awarded so that the study timeline can follow the Trust's mandatory Out-of-School program outcome evaluation timeframe. Results from this study will inform future policy and contract requirements for funded Out-of-School programs.
