In Massachusetts, what started as a community research project focusing on grades 1 to 3 grew into a city-wide campaign to increase daily physical activity and healthy eating throughout the community. The campaign, Shape-Up Sommerville, offers programming and access to resources that support active living in the city, and the project’s evaluation helped inform the city’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development with a 5-year plan on parks and recreation. In addition, the Somerville Bike Committee used findings to guide development of the city's Green Line rapid transit system and extension of the community path.
