What’s Working for Low Income Colorado Students: A Rural-Urban Approach to Building Evidence to Increase Physical Activity
This project provided supplemental funds for an RWJF study originally funded by the Healthy Eating Research (HER) program in their Round 1 funding that identified and evaluated environmental and policy features related to healthy eating among elementary schools located low income, Hispanic and non-Hispanic, urban and rural Colorado. This ALR supplemental grant added to the HER Round 1 grant by including physical activity in the analysis of school wellness policies. Accelerometers were used to collect data on student physical activity and key informant interviews were used for gathering information on school wellness policies. The additional physical activity information provided by this supplemenet aimed to contribute to the knowledge base about changes schools can make to promote physical activity during the school day.
