In 2010, the Pennsylvania State Board of Education expanded the Active Schools Program (ASP) to encourage daily physical activity in both elementary and middle schools, but due to state budget limitations, the ASP did not include control schools. The purpose of this study was to identify and add control schools to an evaluation of the ASP to analyze whether daily physical activity in schools affects obesity. Changes in Body Mass Index percentile, academic achievement, attendance, and physical activity performance were measured from the beginning to end of the school year.
